Boarding & Daycare

About Us:
Our promise here at CVS Boarding and Grooming is to provide the best care for your pet so you can have peace of mind while you’re at work, away for the weekend, or gone with family for an extended trip out of town. With options for daycare or boarding and a variety of enrichment options as well as grooming services, your pet will be cared for like one of our own.

We are located in South Fargo, just west of the 52nd Avenue and 45th street intersection, where we share space with the veterinary clinic. If any problems were to arise during your pet’s stay with us, our trained staff is able to provide medical care based on your authorization in emergency situations. We offer a variety of different boarding, day care, and grooming options that can be seen below.

Our kennel staff are all trained and educated on pet behavior to assist in monitoring play groups while also having additional knowledge of what to watch for should your pet begin to show signs or symptoms of illness or injury. Many of our team members are also certified in pet CPR and can intervene to attempt life-saving techniques in the event of an emergency if you elect for such measures to be taken.

We accept all breeds and temperaments with dogs being sorted into playgroups that best fit their demeanor. If your dog is not a social butterfly with other pets, needs additional one-on-one attention, or is unaltered beyond our required age cut-off to be in playgroup, we also offer a wonderful VIP package at an additional cost of $10 a day. Our VIP package is designed for individual let-out and playtime for your pet.

Day Care:
Does your pet get bored while at home and get into mischief while you’re away or perhaps would benefit from a social setting with other pets and people? We have a solution – bring them to daycare for either a half or full day! The benefits of social daycare range from helping to bust boredom, distract from separation anxiety, and provide an outlet for pets who need additional enrichment to engage their brains and bodies. Let us help you help your pet by providing a fun day of socialization and play, with scheduled rest periods, or add on one of our brain games or another enrichment activity such as a frozen Kong or lick mat while resting between playgroups.

Boarding:
Before your pet’s first time boarding with us, we do require an evaluation day. Our evaluation days are scheduled Monday-Thursday. During this evaluation, which is typically scheduled as a half-day of daycare, we will complete a temperament test to ensure your pet’s compatibility with others. In addition to this temperament test, we will gauge how your pet responds to the overall environment in a social daycare setting. If we notice your pet having a high level of anxiety, we may recommend an anxiety medication before boarding to help him or her have the most comfortable stay possible.

What to Bring for Your Pet’s Boarding Stay

To ensure your pet feels as comfortable and secure as possible during their boarding stay, we recommend bringing a few familiar items from home. Below is a list of essentials to help make their visit stress-free and enjoyable:

  • Bedding: You may bring a machine-washable bed or blanket for your pet’s comfort. Please be aware that pets may chew or damage their bedding if they become anxious during their stay.
  • Food, Dental Chews, or Treats: Feel free to bring your pet’s regular food, dental chews, or treats to ensure they stick to their usual diet.
  • Medications: If your pet takes any medications, be sure to pack them, including any rescue meds for conditions like seizures.
  • Collars: All pets must wear a collar. Accepted styles include flat buckle collars, belt-style collars, or martingale collars. Please avoid breakaway collars.
  • Toys: You may bring some of your pet’s favorite toys, but for safety reasons, we do not leave toys in the kennel overnight as they could pose a choking hazard.

Grooming:
We have two groomers on staff with us Monday through Friday who are professionally trained and will work with your pet for what is best for them while listening to your requests and desires for their cut and style. Proof of current vaccination status is required before scheduling a grooming appointment. We offer dog grooming from just a nail trim, bath service or full service groom including a haircut. There are several options for bath services that include a de-shed package, specialty medicated bath for any skin issues, or a hypoallergenic shampoo for our everyday use! For our white or black coated canine friends we have shampoo to brighten or whiten their coat, or for those who delight in rolling in stinky things, we also have an odor eliminating shampoo to help them smell fresh and clean. If you are feeling festive, we are also able to do speciality color services using a vegan pet-safe colorant to jazz up your pet for a holiday or special event. In addition to dog grooming, we also offer services for cats that can be as simple as a nail trim or a full-body hair cut. Additional services such as nail grinding, paw wax, anal gland expression, and tooth brushing are all available as add-ons to any grooming service or as an al-a-carte option. If you have a rabbit in need of a nail trim, our groomers are also able to assist with this service, too!

If your pet has a hard time with grooming, we do offer a speciality sedated groom service (also called a Tranq and Shave) as well. In most cases, our Tranq and Shave service is a full shave down as we are working under the time constraint of the sedation. This service does not include a bath due to the safety concern of bathing a sedated pet. Tranq and Shave pets must also have a current exam with our veterinary team at Casselton in order to receive this service. Pets undergoing a Tranq and Shave are monitored by a veterinary assistant or technician while our groomer performs this service.

Requirements for Admission for Services:
We require up to date vaccines for all canine and feline pets coming to our facility.

Canine Requirements:
Current proof of Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccines. For pets to remain in playgroup we require them to be spayed or neutered by the time they are 9 months old. If your pet is not spayed or neutered by that age they will have to be VIP for their stay. Canine guests are not required to be spayed or neutered if only coming for grooming services.
Feline Requirements:
Current proof of Rabies, Distemper and a Negative Feline Triple (tests for FIV, FelV and Heartworm disease). Feline clients do not need to be spayed or neutered by a specific age as they do not play together while they are here. (Boarding felines from the same household are permitted to play together, but we do not allow cats from different households to socialize. Feline boarders are also housed individually and are not housed together for their stay)
Rabbits:
We do not require vaccines for our rabbits who board with us. We do require you to provide a cage/enclosure large enough for them to stay in for the duration they are here. You will need to bring bedding, adequate food, and a water source. Should your pet run out of bedding/litter material or food during its stay, the clinic will provide these for a small fee to use our in-house supplies on short notice
